~ WELCOME TO THE PARTY~

First I would like to say a huge thanks to Lori Anderson for all of her hard work to make our party a huge success. Next I would like to thank my partner Sandra Richardson for the bead soup she sent me to work with. If you click on the button of the Bead soup Blog you can check out all of us. Here is Sandra's link, be sure to check out what I sent her and what she did with it. http://www.sandyscoloringbox.blogspot.com/
The challenge I was faced with is that I hardly ever use gold toned in my work I use silver or silver colored metal. I know that may seem miner but it was hard for me to do it. Also I could not seem to fit my focal and toggle in the same piece to give them both the justice they deserved. I love the toggle and did not want to hide it in the back of a piece. I added a nugget of goldstone to bring out the beautiful colors and sparkle in the toggle.
Also I thought the butterfly by itself looked older fashioned and I wanted to make it have a younger feel to the piece.I hope you like what I have done with my soup.

I still have lots of beads left to make more pieces. I especially can't wait to use the monkey lampwork bead. I am still not sure if I am going to use it for a ID badge holder or a bracelet.

  2. For not having worked with gold-tone much you really did a great job of making it feel more neutral than anything. That first, butterfly piece is great! Keep it up!!

  3. Good job with the unfamiliar color scheme. Perhaps it will open up a whole new creative space for you.

  14. great job! beautiful piece and really love that butterfly and how you used it!

  15. Being forced to use another metal color than what you are used to is nothing "minor" at all! If it's what you usually use, you probably have a nice stash of stuff to go along, if not, it means you have to go shopping to make things match. Or, get creative. Also, I don't think ANYONE would have been able to use the focal and the clasp in the same piece. The butterfly is all filigree, whereas the clasp imho DEMANDS to be used with a chunky design with BIG BEADS.

Lovely job you did there. Though, if you're willing to take constructive criticism, the earrings seem too small and delicate to match up with the necklace?

  16. Love the result! Great job. I love both the focal and clasp they are gorgeous.

  18. Well I have been thinking I wanted to get some more goldstone so maybe a larger pair of earrings out of goldstone just might be in order!! Thanks for the suggestion for bigger earrings and who says you can't have 2 pairs of earrings for one necklace depending on the mood-

  20. I love the second one, I think I would have it wrapped around my wrist multiple times if I could get close enough to touch it! I completely understand what you mean about goldtonesI think I can count on both times the number of times I've used it in the 30+ yrs I've been beading

  50. Nice job - and it was fun to be challenged by non familiar items, wasn't it? I sure thought so!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Beautiful necklace. If I had not read the post I would never have thought you were unfamiliar with working in gold tone colors!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Alice, I too, do not use a lot of gold-toned metals in my work - I lean very heavily on annealed steel/gunmetal and silver, with a shot of copper and v-e-r-y occasionally, a bit of brass...so I totally understand the challenge you faced. I must say - you did a lovely job, and I agree with your instinct to not use the butterfly focal with the toggle clasp in the same piece. Great work!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm another one who rarely if ever uses gold tone and I had a similar challenge to you. You've done a wonderful job, the necklace and earrings a really lovely. Isn't that butterfly beautiful.

  67. Such a rich fall palette! Sometimes it is a great exercise in creativity to be pushed outside our comfort zone. I regularly seek ways to shake things up for myself. I love the idea of a badge holder! Great job!
